Koh Hong is one of the Andaman Sea’s great sights: a ring of limestone cliffs around a hidden lagoon, and no secret to the day-trip boats. This day turns the usual timing on its head. You leave Krabi around midday by private speedboat, arriving as the crowds are thinking about heading home.
Lunch is set up on the sand just for you, a barefoot Thai picnic looking out over the limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay. Afterwards there’s time to explore the lagoon and the sheltered coves nearby, to snorkel, swim or simply stay put on the beach, with the island growing quieter as the afternoon goes on.

As the light softens, the boat carries on to a small uninhabited island, where the crew have set up sunset drinks and Thai snacks. It’s yours alone for the last hour of the day. Then back across the water to the pier, and to your hotel in the early evening, with time for a late dinner if you’re hungry.
Good to know: keep the morning free, as you’ll leave your hotel around 11am and be back between 7.30 and 8pm. Each boat crossing takes up to an hour, so it’s not ideal for anyone who dislikes speedboats. Lunch is served on mats on the sand, which may not suit those who find sitting on the ground difficult. Not recommended for children under three. Best from November to May, as heavy showers are common in the wet season. Lunch, sunset drinks, snorkelling gear and soft drinks are included, and the day is plastic-free.
Private to your party. Available year-round, weather permitting.
